Emergency Food Shelf

*** Please visit the FACEBOOK PAGE for up to date information

The Mission

In view of the increased need for emergency food supplies in the Rock County area, an emergency food shelf has been established. Utilizing and bringing together the county resources, the RCEFS provides food assistance to individuals and families.

Nonperishable Food

Nonperishable foods are “shelf-stable” items that do not spoil or decay. They can withstand months (even years) of shelf life, which is why they are sometimes referred to as “shelf-stable.”

Please do not donate open, partially used, or long expired items.

Hours

Every Thursday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm

Location

208 W Maple St, Luverne, MN 56156

How does the food shelf work?

People hear about the food shelf through their church, social service organization, or from family or friends. Faced with an emergency situation, every Rock County resident is eligible for help from the food shelf.

Each visitor to the food shelf is asked to fill out a card which includes name, address, age and names of those in the household. With the help of food shelf volunteers, the person selects food based on personal preferences and the size of his/her family. Visitors to the food shelf should remember the shelf is designed for emergencies.

The number of visits and the about of food is restricted to one visit per month so that there will always be food for emergencies.

The Rock County Emergency Food Shelf was started by local churches. It is dependent upon churches, civic organizations, local businesses, social service agencies, and concerned individuals for donation of food and money.
We need the involvement of the entire county to keep RCEFS working and providing emergency food to our neighbors.
